Why RobotBesties.com? Simply put, “they” wanted nearly $25k for “Robotfriends dot com” and $3k or so for related “pal” “buddy” etc. themed names. But, no one had apparently thought about the slang term “besties” So I snagged that for us on the cheap! I’ve also liked the idea of the robots in my collection eventually interacting with various sensors from simple to more complex over time. Eventually it might appear that they are all “robot besties” with each other.
The other goal of Robotbesties.com is to share my enthusiasm about robots – too often, popular culture instills an unearned fear of robots far beyond the basics of robot safety. Even notice how quick some of your friends are to scream about “omg skynet” as if that popular meant-for-entertainment action franchise was some kind of documentary. You can’t show someone your harmless quadruped robot without having to hear “oh no, black mirror!” Well, not to fear, Robot Besties is here to set the record straight about our fun robot friends. Robot safety is very important, but we’re talking about keeping your fingers out of the pinch zones, and we know that our robot friends (at least the ones that I can afford to build and/or collect) are not big or smart enough to do us serious harm. Besides, we’re here to build and program robots for GOOD!
